The Apron. What a wonderful little accessory. I’m not exactly sure when the apron stopped being used all the time, but I think it must have been a very sad time and I’m super glad it is making its way back into kitchens everywhere. In our house and on our farm the apron is alive and well. A different apron is worn nearly every day. woman in orange apron taking a selfie woman outside in a city in blue apron My mother-in-law sews beautiful vintage-style aprons and I am obsessed with them. I love an apron. I love that it can dry my hands, keep flour from my clothes, wipe my babies tears, hold my phone (that’s a modern day amenity of an apron). You name it, this little multi-purpose accessory is quite a little handy thing. When I was younger and I would cook with my Gramsey I loved to put on an apron because that meant I was really cooking. I would pretend I was a cooking show host. Thank goodness we didn’t have cell phones back then because those videos would be mortifying now. I just get super excited to cook. I find it amazing that an inanimate object can be so powerful, yet it is. It truly helps me to get the job done quickly and efficiently. It’s the best placebo for the unmotivated cook. Fabrics that are meant to look vintage and stand the test of time against wear and tear are not cheap. My mother-in-law buys beautiful fabric that is used for quilting and she transforms it into authentic, sewing masterpieces ;p true story.   smock style apron in blue fabric with white daisies This post may contain affiliate links. It really is incredible the things you can do with a skill like sewing. It is almost one of those forgotten old fashioned skills that everyone should know. Thanks to my mama and my mother-in-law I at least know how to operate a sewing machine, but I have a lot of work to do in that department. In the meantime, I will proudly sport the things they craft for me and I will parade my kids around in their homemade play clothes. That means if you come here to visit you’ll probably find me in an apron full of flour, love and dirty kids’ hand prints and smudges.
